Here’s how you can update WordPress to turn off these links by default.
How to Disable Default Image Links
This is the Link to status that decides where an image inserted into a post will link:
The default Link to status for images in WordPress is “Media File”. The Media File page, also known as the attachment page, is basically useless since it’s just a page with the same image.
You probably don’t want every image in your post linking to a page that simply contains the image at a similar size again, but removing this link for every single image can be incredibly tedious.
Luckily, there’s a developer who had the same thought and made the No Image Link plugin.
As you can see from the screenshot, this plugin hasn’t been updated recently, but it still works perfectly fine.
This simple WordPress plugin will set the Link to status of images you insert into posts and pages default to “None”. In other words, it removes the default image link.
Once you install this plugin, you won’t have to set the status to “none” ever again. You can still link your images if you’d like, but now it won’t be the default setting.
