Do you use the same category over and over for your posts? Do you forget to categorize posts and accidentally publish them as “Uncategorized”?
There’s a way to avoid both these issues, and implementing it will only take 30 seconds.
How to Set a Default Post Category
In your WordPress admin dashboard, navigate to the Writing Settings menu. Once there, locate the Default Post Category setting:
Use the dropdown to select any of your existing categories as the new default category. Once set, save your changes, and your new posts will automatically be categorized into the default category.
That’s it!
Note that this will not re-categorize any posts currently in the “Uncategorized” category, but any new posts you add will automatically be categorized with the new default.
If you want to customize categories even further on your site, you might like this method of showing one category on your homepage instead of listing posts from every category.
