What are the deciding factors for guests when they book a hotel? The reasons will vary but it all comes down to the facilities that attract guests and will make a hotel stand out within the hospitality sector. One which is of importance to many is the fitness facilities available in the hotel gym. From business trips to complete wellness retreats, guests want to stay active and keep up with their training routine whilst they travel.

It is no longer enough to have a hotel gym that is equipped with the odd piece of cardio equipment and a mismatch of weights. They need to be as well designed and luxurious as the rest of the hotel.

Provide a variety of hotel gym equipment

For a 5-star service, guests expect all their needs to be catered for throughout their stay. This includes an extensive choice of equipment in the hotel gym. When designing a hotel gym, it should be approached in a similar way to that of a commercial facility. There needs to be a balance of workout options from cardio and strength training, to floor space for stretching and yoga.

Zoning is an excellent way to create a functional hotel gym layout which accommodates all guests’ fitness needs and capabilities. By sectioning areas for specific workouts, it will make it easier for guests to navigate around the gym and find their preferred activity.

focus on the interior design of the hotel gym

Whilst the layout of the space and the equipment options are a key factor in a hotel gym, the design should not be forgotten. Fitness facilities within the hospitality sector are often stuck between that of a commercial environment and a luxury environment. Sourcing equipment that focuses on both aesthetics and functionality will ensure that the interior style that features throughout the hotel continues into the gym.

The design of gym equipment is at the forefront of product development for many manufacturers. This is allowing not only hotel gyms but all types of wellness facilities to add a unique style. From dark and bold fitness machines for a dramatic interior to equipment with natural materials for a luxurious finish, hotel gyms can now find their own niche.

To incorporate the interior elements and branding of the hotel into the gym, there is also the option to customise equipment. Specific colours, materials and logos can be featured across the wellness area, reinforcing the identity of the hotel.

keep guests connected and engaged

For those who choose to train in a hotel gym whilst travelling, many will have some form of fitness technology. From fitness watches to training apps, the ability to track workouts will be of importance to guests. Therefore, when selecting cardio machines, find ones with fantastic connection functionalities for multiple devices. Alongside this, it is important that there is strong Wi-Fi in the hotel gym which is easy to connect to. As guests may want to follow workouts on personal devices or fitness apps require internet connection.

Audio and visual technology play a big part in creating a motivating and enjoyable atmosphere. Adjustable sound systems should be installed to create the correct ambience in a specific workout area. For televisions, they should be placed in optimum positioning across the hotel gym so they can be viewed from all angles.

offer exceptional service

The overall guest experience should be to the same exceptional standard wherever they are. Whether they are checking in, dining at a restaurant, or working out in the hotel gym. The equipment selection, interior design and technology will all have a huge impact on this, but additional simple touches are extremely beneficial.

Prior to their stay, offer guests the chance to book in with a qualified personal trainer once they arrive. This could be for a 1-1 session or to provide equipment demonstrations. When using the hotel gym, always provide guests with fresh towels, refillable water bottles and post workout snacks for a 5* experience from start to finish.

On land and at sea, we have designed and installed gyms which feature in numerous luxury locations. Many of our clients who own or charter superyachts, will also own or hire private jets. With wellness areas within their homes and superyachts, why not feature a gym on a private jet?

This may seem like something out of the ordinary, but the International Space Station has its own gym with a treadmill, bike and even a weightlifting device. Therefore, when you consider this, a gym on a private jet doesn’t seem that bizarre of a demand.

Why have a gym on a private jet?

This may seem ludicrous, however there are benefits to working out whilst flying. Sitting for an extended period of time can decrease blood circulation, which increases the risk of deep vein thrombosis. Staying active throughout your flight reduces this risk by increasing blood flow. Exercising will also help reduce symptoms of jet lag which is essential for those who are regularly travelling for business. Their inflight wellness space will allow them to stick to their standard routine, regardless of how many time zones they are travelling across.

What are the considerations when designing a gym on a private jet?

Private jets offer the luxury of privacy, comfort and style whilst travelling, boasting many similarities to a superyacht. With this in mind, our inhouse gym design experts have collated the main considerations when featuring a gym on a private jet.

Turbulence

The combination of turbulence and gym equipment is important to consider due to health and safety. Similar to installing equipment on superyachts, machines would need to be bolted to the floor or have special fastenings to avoid potential injury, damage to the equipment, or indeed the jet itself! There are also additional safety requirements that would need to be considered when designing a gym on a private jet for example including emergency seats within the wellness area.

Keeping it light

Unfortunately, there are still weight restrictions even when flying on a private jet. When selecting your equipment for a gym on a private jet, the lighter, the better. Exercise bikes are always a fantastic option for lightweight cardio equipment such as the Life Fitness IC6 Indoor cycle, weighing only 51kg. As a spin bike it has a compact design and is self-powered, so no need to worry about any electricals. Furthermore, if clients wanted to work out together, then multiple bikes could be installed onboard without taking up too much space or weight.

Small footprint

Space will always be a limitation on a private jet. By creating cleverly designed storage and selecting space saving gym equipment, this issue can be easily managed. The NUO Flexbell Adjustable Dumbbells are particularly popular with our clients. With a full dumbbell set, clients can strength train whilst they fly, personally we think the aisle would be the perfect place for walking lunges! Alternatively, kettlebells, TRX kits and other gym accessories require minimal space and can be stored away on a private jet.

Height Restrictions

Not only the height of the room but getting the equipment onto the private jet will be a restriction. Rowing machines such as the Concept2 would solve this issue due to its slim design. Another advantage is that it is extremely light, only weighing 29kg. Lastly, maximum user height will also need to be factored in when designing a gym on a private jet. Anything that involves sitting would be beneficial, making the Concept2 and also the Life Fitness IC6 a suitable choice.

Concept-2-Model-D-510×510

Personalisation

From the exterior design, to interior furnishings, private jets can be customised to the client’s desire. This can continue within their wellness area onboard their private jet. Owners can customise using high-quality materials such as leather or have their logo featured on their dumbbells and benches. The ultimate height of luxury to complete the interior design of their private jet.

Flying used to be a time that you could switch off from the world, but now emails can be responded to and business meetings can be held. With the likes of Vladmir Putin and Kim Kardashian already exercising when they fly, we don’t think it will be long until this trend begins to take off (quite literally).

When investing in a wellness space, it is important that it is well planned from start to finish to ensure a smooth process. By choosing a gym designer you can guarantee that you will receive expert advice and professionalism, resulting in your dream gym. If you’re still undecided, we have collated a list of reasons why hiring a gym designer is a great idea.

Space Planning

The beauty of a gym is that it can be built in pretty much any room. Whether you want to convert an unused basement, transform your garage or build a brand-new extension, anything is possible. However, it is vital to make best use of the space. This can be difficult, especially in unusually shaped rooms. A gym designer will be able to create a layout which ensures floor space is maximised and without overcrowding the area. With smart space planning, they will guarantee that you have a beautifully designed gym that will meet your workout goals.

Gym Designer

Equipment Knowledge of a Gym Designer

As industry experts, gym designers have a vast amount of knowledge on equipment. They work with multiple brands, therefore can recommend specific products tailored to your wants and budget. For example, if want strength training equipment, but are  limited on space, a gym designer could recommend dual use or multi system machines.

Furthermore, their relationships with suppliers means they will always be up to date with the latest products and trends. Most importantly, as they work with multiple brands you will have a variety of options and won’t be limited to using one brand.

Custom Items

A gym designer can enhance your gym in multiple ways, one of which is creating custom items. They are often able to come up with a solution when the off the shelf option doesn’t quite fit the brief. Customisation can range from colours, footprint and use of luxury materials such as leather. It is also not limited to equipment, but also for storage solutions for gym accessories. If there are awkward alcoves or existing cupboard spaces, these could be fitted with a bespoke racking system. Alternatively, unique frames can be built to fit perfectly within the room. Regardless of your request, gym designers will do their upmost to create your dream gym with custom items.

Gym Designer

Technology

Gym designers are well-versed on the latest developments of technology in the fitness industry; as it is always changing it can be hard to keep up with. Everyone has different needs when it comes to gyms and this is the same for technology. You may wish to connect all your fitness apps to track your progression, or perhaps entertainment is vital to keep you going during your workout. Gym designers can personalise your range depending on your favourite apps and fitness brands such as Fitbit, Polar or Apple.

Deadlines

For every gym delivered, regardless of the size, project management plays a huge part in the success of the space. Sourcing equipment, ordering products, arranging delivery is hard work, and a gym designer can do all of this for you and save time. If it’s a tight timescale, then they can specifically choose equipment which they know has short lead times. In addition, with contacts and industry knowledge, they may be able to speed up delivery.

When it comes to the delivery of products, it can be difficult when ordering from multiple suppliers. A gym designer can arrange all equipment to be delivered at the same time in one simple order on one invoice. Making the whole process simple and stress free.

Gym Designer

More than Gym Equipment

It’s not just putting gym equipment into a room; gym designers can offer expertise in every tiny detail. There are many important factors which can easily be forgotten. For example, suitable gym flooring which is vital for health and safety and the location of sockets so there are enough all in the right place.

Lighting, audio and HVAC are also significant features to create the perfect environment. Gym designers will often work in partnerships with contractors and interior designers to ensure you have an incredible workout experience which fits your specific needs. They are there to support your gym design project from beginning to end.

Pricing

Immersed within the fitness industry, gym designers will have trade relationships with all major manufacturers, and therefore can often pass on some of this discount to their customers. They can also save money by sourcing, delivering and installing all in one go – rather than having multiple deliveries from different companies and being charged separately for installation fees.

After Sales Support from your Gym Designer

The support doesn’t finish once the installation team have left, a gym designer will provide after care and servicing. In the case that a product breaks, clients can contact their gym designer who will deal with the repair or replacement. Therefore, taking the stress and hassle away from you and dealing with any issues directly themselves. In most cases, they will also offer equipment demonstrations from personal trainers. Thus, ensuring you can reach your goals in your brilliant new gym.

Reducing stress and creating a supportive working environment is vital for the health and wellbeing of employees. A variety of schemes and programs are available to support this, however, there is one that offers an abundance of perks, an office gym. Drawing on our knowledge and experience, we have collated our top tips on what to consider for your office gym design to please all your staff.

Create a space to support health and wellbeing

An office gym design is more than putting exercise equipment into a room, it is creating a space which your employees will want to spend time in. Firstly, you will need to find somewhere in your building which can support the numbers within your organisation or if you have the option, potentially extend. Other factors to consider when selecting the location for your office gym include acoustics, as noise could travel and disturb staff whilst they are working. Changing facilities also need to be taken into account for your office gym design, as people will be exercising before work or during their lunch break.

When deciding the layout for your office gym design, it can be tempting to fit as much equipment as possible into your chosen location. However maximising floor space without overcrowding is easier than you may think. There are a wide range of multi-functional machines which will save space without having to compromise on exercise options. Another solution is converting existing cupboards or creating smart storage for accessories such as kettlebells and mats which will use minimal space. Furthermore, when deciding the layout for your office gym design, zoning specific areas for activities such as cardio, strength, functional training etc, will improve workout flow and ensure floor space is maximised.

By forward-thinking your office gym design, you can ensure that all elements are considered to create a space which encourages staff to invest in their health and fitness.

Office Gym Design

Choose gym equipment to meet all needs

An office gym will be used daily by multiple employees and everyone will have different demands regarding their fitness needs. Sending out a survey is a great way to get an initial idea on what would be most popular in your office gym design, as you won’t want to spend money on equipment that won’t be used. It is also a great tool to gain insight on how many employees would be using the facilities. From our experience, cardio is always a safe bet in an office gym. With a wide range of machines available including treadmills, bikes, rowing machines and cross trainers, they are suitable for all fitness levels. Also available with compact dimensions, they will help you achieve a spacious office gym design.

Due to consistent use, warranty is another important factor to consider when selecting your range of machines for your office gym design. Health and safety is imperative especially in the workplace and you will want to ensure they can be fixed quickly without costing you extra. Most brands will have their warranty terms and conditions easily available, therefore it is worthwhile taking time to review these.

The fitness industry is continuously developing new products and trends, with this in mind it is beneficial to leave space within your office gym design. Then, when a new machine or workout launches, you can meet the demands of your employees.

Office Gym Design

Use your office gym design as an opportunity to offer something different

An office gym is great for employees who regularly workout, but struggle to fit it in to their daily routine. It is important to encourage all staff to take advantage of the facilities as it can benefit their work life by increasing productivity and reducing sickness.

Inviting a fitness instructor to teach classes can give confidence to those who have limited experience at gyms as it can be daunting for some. This is another consideration for your office gym design, as you will need to allocate an area or build a studio for group workouts.

How we can help with your office gym design

We can support your office gym design through every step of the journey. From the planning process and deciding the layout, to offering after care.

At our most recent office gym design project we provided an onsite induction to over 200 staff. Broken down into smaller groups, we gave demonstrations of equipment and answered any questions. In the future they will receive ongoing maintenance and service. In addition, we also offered follow up training sessions two times a year at their office gym.

The Team at Gym Marine had the pleasure of attending Elevate in the ExCel London arena for the annual fitness expo. Not only did we get to catch up with our suppliers, we also got a first look at some of the new and updated products from the likes of Eleiko, Physical and Jordan, among others. Here are some of our favourite finds.

Sprintbok - Nohrd

Elevate 2019

The non-motorised Sprintbok from NOHrD is both aesthetically pleasing and practical. The self-powered treadmill allows users to generate power just by using their own force, making you work much harder and giving you more from your workouts. It also offers a small footprint, an impressive console and soft rubber within the deck for maximum comfort and shock absorption. Better yet, it improves running technique and enforces good neck and back posture!

Classic svr insert platform - Eleiko

weights platform

The Eleiko Classic SVR Insert Platform is designed to reduce noise, dampen vibration and minimise bounce. The lifting deck is finished with a durable laminate top that provides optimal grip for tough training sessions, built to withstand high volume gym usage. The platform is also engineered with square tubing to integrate seamlessly with the racks. We had a go at dropping the weights on the platform and minimal sound was produced!

Evo Urethane Revolving Dumbbells - Eleiko

Eleiko

These extraordinary dumbbells are composed of urethane and stainless steel and are anti-roll and revolving! The weights are ultra-durable, feature unbeatable designs and the rotating grip guarantees exceptionally smooth movement and a comfortable fit. These expert dumbbells by Eleiko should be your go to weight of choice.

Rubber Kettlebells - FluiKettle

Elevate 2019

This new addition to the Physical range brings innovation, refreshing exteriors and user-friendly materials. The kettlebells showcase a soft rubber shell and contain a steel and sand filling. They are not only extremely comfortable (tried and tested by our team) and non-marking but are a safe and stylish solution for your wellness space. Coming in a range of weight sizes, find the perfect fit.

HIIT Bench - Jordan

Elevate 2019

Being one of the most popular features at the expo, the fitness bench that caught our eye was the Jordan HIIT bench. Offering maximum storage capabilities, versatility, an 80 degree tilt and a compact footprint, the HIIT bench is unlike the others. We also noticed the amount of strength that can be applied to it and the various attachments you could affix. It allows for storage of 5 sets of dumbbells, two kettlebells, a medicine ball, as well as a skipping rope and resistance bands. In true Jordan fashion, you can even choose to customise your bench with your own logos and colours!

Elevate it was a pleasure and we can’t wait to see what next year brings so we can share the next generation of new and exciting products!

The Project

This gorgeous two-storey penthouse in Fitzrovia (belonging to none other than an actor) was missing one thing – a gym space. We were recruited to convert a spare bedroom into a complete wellness space. The client wanted an equal balance of cardio and strength so he could have a full session with his PT in the comfort of his home.

The Problem

We were faced with quite the ambitious task, the client wanted a full gym in his spare bedroom. On the wishlist was the Watson Animal Dual Adjustable Pulley with Micro Adjuster, StairMaster HIIT Bike, Watson Pro Dumbbells, Watson Adjustable Bench and enough room for floor workouts and yoga. After managing to piece together a functional and stylish space, there was one piece of kit that wouldn’t quite fit without blocking the door and that of course was the feature Dumbbell rack. The rack came out so far that it blocked half the entrance.

Interior Gym Design Concept
Penthouse 2: our concept design

The Solution

Creating custom gym equipment for our clients is something we are really passionate about, so when we can solve problems with design work, that’s even better! This is how we tackled the issue at Penthouse 2: the dumbbell rack was taken back and the sides were refabricated into a more upright “E” shape, reducing the depth of the overall footprint. The access to the gym was no longer blocked and the rack fit seamlessly into its intended space.

Personal Touches

Our clients tend to get creative with their spaces and we enjoy a challenge, with this gym the client wanted a solid oak lifting platform that would have been a trip hazard and reduced floor area available for yoga and stretching. We approached the request from a different angle, creating the platform using a 40mm thick oak insert and 40mm dense rubber tiles, creating a flat surface. The customer had also indicated he wanted to reduce the risk of disturbing his neighbours in the flat below. To achieve this we installed an acoustic vibration proofing layer underneath the gym floor tiles.

When I founded Gym Marine, most people told me it would never work.

“There aren’t enough boats” was one of the most common responses, along with “we just get our kit from Decathlon” or some other insistence that yacht owners did not care about their onboard work out space; or at least not enough to warrant our hopeful business plan.

I made my first sale on the dock in Imperia, during an afternoon tea break whilst in my then-fulltime job as Bosun onboard a 44m Heesen called Lady L. We’d been washing down the transom and it was one of those baking hot days in Italy where the whole land seems to shimmer. A friend got in touch and said she’d heard I was testing the water with a start-up business selling yacht gym equipment, and that her captain was after some parts for his rowing machine plus a replacement unit for the boss. I think we lost about £14 in the end after some sort of delivery mishap but that didn’t matter. Boats wanted gym kit – and that was enough for me!

In the nearly 5 years that have passed since that gorgeous day in Italy I have been immensely proud to have designed and delivered superyacht gyms onboard the world’s largest motoryacht (DILBAR – volume) and sailing yacht (BLACK PEARL). We’ve crammed crew gyms into tiny spaces below deck, converted unused libraries into bright training spaces and set about curating ranges of the highest quality superyacht gym equipment for use in tough environments onboard polar explorers.

My job is not easy, and for the most part has very little to do with fitness itself. After all, like most yachting functions our day-to-day activity at Gym Marine is dominated by logistics and deadlines; rather than lateral raises and leg extensions. Understanding the operations of a superyacht and juxtaposing these with the demands of a gym user is one thing, but managing and delivering the logistical elements that underpin these beautiful workout spaces is a full time job in itself!

So here are 5 Superyacht Gym Design lessons I have learnt the hard way since starting Gym Marine:

1. It’s always going to rust

One of the driving forces behind founding the company was a certain set of Escape Dumbbells we had onboard M/Y HAMPSHIRE. Made from mild steel and plated with chrome, the deck team had assumed that due to their shine they were stainless steel. Out came the Flitz polish (very abrasive) and off came the 0.25 micron chrome plating, exposing the incredibly corrosion-friendly mild steel to warm, salty Mediterranean air. Needless to say these weights were a beautiful shade of orange before the season had even started!

2. Yacht owners are incredibly tall

When we first approach a superyacht gym design, our opening question is either ‘how high are the ceilings’ or ‘how tall is the owner’. The reason for this is, of course, that boats do not famously have high ceilings. I am often shocked at how consideration is not given to ceiling height in superyacht gyms at the very earliest stage in the naval architecture process, particularly when cardio equipment with large step-up heights are involved.

In the last few years we have worked on more than a few new build projects where the owners have been 195cm+. Creating gyms for these lengthy (and wealthy) clients is the sort of challenge that I relish the opportunity to tackle alongside the project team, after all – there’s something out there for everyone.

3. You can only relax once you’re 100% certain its onboard…and even then don’t relax

I fully expect to have lost all of my hair by the age of 30 (I’m 26 now)! Delivering goods to consumers in the modern era of Amazon Prime is stressful enough, but when your clients addresses change every 12 hours and the boss absolutely NEEDS his new cross trainer before he has his eggs tomorrow morning, stress levels in our office can sometimes boil over.

Our Chief Engineer Jon once spent an entire day chasing a very large yacht up and down the Cote D’Azur, only to finally get onboard to do a scheduled gym service just before midnight. Halfway through the reassembly of a cross trainer he glanced up to see the water swishing past the porthole and the moon reflected in the waves. He was on his way to Sardinia after a last minute request from the boss upstairs!

4. You’ve got to love your suppliers more than you love yourself

At Gym Marine our whole business is built on the base of suppliers we have gathered together over the past 5 years. And what a great bunch they are! Working closely with our contacts at some of the world’s best fitness and wellness brands has taught me a vast array of lessons in design aesthetics, project management, A/V technology, logistics and customer support. The great relationships we built with our suppliers allows us to offer world leading service to our superyacht gym customers, and we are proud to be representing global companies such as Technogym, Concept 2, Life Fitness and many more within our special marketplace. Just taking this opportunity to say a big “thanks for everything you do for us guys”.

5. The sky is the limit, but the sea is home

This year our company has grown really fast, and we are working hard to ensure that as we start to tackle new marketplaces and sectors such as home gym design and spa equipment, we still remain focussed on delivering the best possible experience for our superyacht customers. As an ex crew member its important for me to remember why I started Gym Marine, which was an opportunity to remain connected to the industry I love whilst not having to clean scuppers ever again! Our yachting heritage will remain with us for as long as the company continues to trade, and we will always continue to strive to be the global leading experts in superyacht gym design.

So if you’re on the look out for a new crew treadmill, or the bike on the sundeck is starting to look a little tired, then I would still be as thrilled to hear from you as I was on that first day in Imperia. You can contact me via the author profile below, or make a general enquiry here.

In today’s extremely busy society taking care of ourselves often comes second to the pressures of work, family life and a constant temptation to over-indulge. With time being a precious and expiring entity, even getting to the gym can be a workout in itself as you navigate the minefield of social and professional commitments that modern life throws at you on a daily basis.

Here’s our answer to one of life’s greatest gripes, the all too familiar “I just don’t have time to stay in shape”.

Get a Home Gym

So you want to get fit then? Right, that’s the first bit out of the way. All great achievements start with a positive gearshift in mindset, and 50% of the battle towards better health is having the right attitude and wanting to achieve your goals. You don’t need to own a sprawling mansion or a superyacht to have your own home gym either. In fact, most of the challenges our gym design team face involve coming up with ways to help clients maximise smaller spaces in their homes and to turn them into functional gym areas. Normally it’s a disused bedroom or a garage that becomes a home gym, but sometimes clients create semi-permanent structures in their gardens, or even utilise conservatories or utility rooms for their new workout area.

What gym equipment should I buy?

This is a question with open ended answers, and of course depends massively on the goals you have set for yourself and the space available. A particular trick we often employ in home gym designs is the selection of multifunctional equipment in order to get the most out of the space you have allocated for your new gym.

A versatile strength & functional training machine like a dual adjustable pulley or home multigym is a great choice for exercisers looking to perform weightlifting at home. A decent multigym will allow you to perform 100+ different exercises using various attachments, and all in a small compact footprint!

Of course, most people who are considering creating a gym in their house will first be thinking about what home cardio equipment to buy. The great attraction of cardio in a home gym is the obvious benefit of not having to leave the house to thrash out a quick 10K…especially useful in the United Kingdom, where it rains more often than not! Our recommendation is always to select machines with a good home warranty, and also those with slightly more compact dimensions so you can claim back valuable floor space for stretching and other exercises. A cross trainer is probably one of the most popular machines amongst home gym clients, as it offers a low impact workout for the whole body and maximum calorie burning.

If you are on a budget and don’t want to invest in larger machines, you can achieve incredible results with a basic selection of free-weights and gym accessories. A set of dumbbells and a bench are all you need for a total-body strength and conditioning workout, and you can get incredible cardiovascular training benefits with a simple skipping rope. You don’t need loads of space to use these items, and they are really easy to store when you’re finished. You might even want to take your equipment outside into the garden when the sun is shining!

Choosing the right room for your home gym design

Beyond the obvious, there are a few key factors which need to be carefully considered when beginning a home gym design. As you’ll have seen above, selecting a room at the start of the home gym design process is perhaps the most important bit. Space is always a massive consideration, and you need to think carefully about the type of exercise you are planning on doing in your gym, and the floor area which it requires. If you plan on using the space for functional training activities such as free-weights or kettlebells, make sure that you have a good clear floor area and a place to store your loose items. Storage is such an essential part of planning a home gym, as you don’t want your space to appear cluttered or have equipment in hard-to-reach places that inhibits the flow of your workout. You should consider making use of any cupboards in the room where you can, or even investigate options for custom racks where possible. An alcove or disused cupboard space is a perfect place to convert into a clever gym equipment storage space!

Ceiling height is another key thing to consider at the beginning of the gym design process. If you are a tall person and live in a house with average or lower ceilings, you may find that certain pieces of cardio equipment will not work in your home gym design as there is a risk of your head colliding with the ceiling during operation. Equally, studio style workout activities involving plyo-boxes or overhead presses with an olympic bar may not be possible. If you are remodelling your home and have the opportunity to do so, ask your interior designer or architect if a floor recess or ceiling dome is possible for your cardio machines – any extra height you can gain will make your home gym seem much larger and more comfortable to train in.

Lastly, we always encourage our clients to ensure that they have great lighting and air conditioning in their home gyms. A bright, airy space will always be conducive to a better workout, and maintaining a correct temperature will ensure that you have a perfect environment to focus on reaching your fitness goals.

Creating your training program… and sticking to it!

Once your new home gym equipment is delivered and installed, its time to get down to business. Now that you don’t have to brave the elements or drive into town to exercise, you should be in great shape in no time, right?

Having made a significant investment in your gym, you should give equal consideration to spending some time learning about your machines and how to use them. You don’t necessarily need to splash out on a full time personal trainer, but it may be a good idea to get someone over to your house to show you how to use your machines and what kind of workout you can plan in your new home gym space. Make use of the internet and the huge number of online resources available to find out which techniques can be the most effective using the equipment you have – most home gym customers opt to put a television in their room, as you are able to follow online trainers on YouTube and take part in online class style workouts at home.

So what’s next? Well, if you’re interested in creating your own home gym design in partnership with Gym Marine Interiors you can contact us today for a completely free consultation. We can help with equipment selection, floor planning and all the logistical planning required to deliver the project.
